“This scholarship means the world to me. It will help me so much. Honored to be apart of the foundation.”

First off I’d like to say, receiving the Joel F. Glover memorial scholarship has been one of the greatest honors I’ve received in my life. Out of all the students who applied for it, along with the ten lucky students interviewed I was the one who received it. I also feel very honored to be the first male to have received the scholarship.

I was born in a small town in Mexico that nobody has ever heard of. My parents and family were really poor living in small cramped rooms made of adobe and that didn’t even have windows. They set out to the United States in search of a better life for me, they would’ve never imagined I would be attending one of the top Universities in the nation. My parents have been working their whole lives in the United States and informed me they were tired of the United State’s high paced environment, so they would be leaving to Mexico upon my graduation. I would have to be on my own.

Luckily, I received the Joel F. Glover Memorial scholarship along with two other scholarships, and two grants although the Glover scholarship is the bulk of my financial aid.

I am currently a fulltime freshman student at the University of Nevada, Reno. I also work at Kmart up to twenty hours a week. I am majoring in Biology with the goal to eventually become a trauma surgeon. This scholarship is helping me achieve my goals by helping me pay for tuition and textbooks along with helping me save up money for when I eventually go to medical school.
